Small Groups

Small groups are one of the ways we experience community at PVUMC. This is where we care, grow, reach and serve.

Before visiting a group be sure to contact the leader or hosts to verify time and location, except for Sunday 10am groups.

Grow Groups

Groups for Children and Youth...

101. Kids’ Worship.

Children through 5th grade are dismissed to Kids' Worship in Room 2 following Children's Time at each service. Serves as Sunday School at 9:45 and 10:45am. Different topics offered during each hour. Coordinator: Jill Bennett, 285-2134.

105. Children’s Arts Ministry.

Children age 4 through 5th grade meet Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00pm in the Fellowship Hall to utilize the creative arts in learning about God and bringing praise to God. Leaders: Anne Torgerson, 221-8057 and Jill Bennett, 285-2134.

110. Youth Class.

Students in grades 6 - 12 meet Sundays at 10:45am in Room 3. Leader: Kelly Minter.

111. Confirmation Class.

Students in grades 6 - 12 meet Sundays at 10:45am in Room 4 through May 6. Learning about the faith and the church. Leader: Yolie Macon.

116. YCAM.

Students in grades 6 - 12 meet Wednesdays in the Fellowship Hall from 6:30 - 8:00pm to utilize the creative arts in bringing praise to God. Leader: Scott Tinsley.

Groups for Men...

121. Men’s Bible Study.

Meets Mondays at 7:00am in the kitchen. Leader: Gary Tiller, 285-9726.

Groups for Men and Women...

126. Crown.

Ten week in-depth small group study examines what scripture teaches about money and possessions. Learn to practically apply financial principles from the Bible to your life. Contact church office: 280-5141.

152. Planters.

This small group meets at 4:30 each Monday in the home of Bill & Lois Simon (The Plantation), 285-7119.

154. Seekers.

Meets every other Tuesday. This group meets at a local restaurant at 11:30am for lunch and then travels to various homes for Bible study. Contact John or Bette McEvoy at 280-4678.

182. Inquirers.

Meets Sundays at 9:45am in Room 2. Studying the book of John. Leader: Cooper Agent.

183. Shepherds.

Meets Sundays at 10:45am in Room 5. Leaders: Bruce and Alice Morris.

184. Cornerstone Class.

Meets Sundays at 10:45am in the Fellowship Hall. Studying The Sermon on the Mount. Leaders: Don & Ellen Carson.

194. Disciple II - Into the Word, Into the World..

Meeting Wednesdays, 7-9:30pm for 32 weeks. Prequisite: Disciple I. Leader: Jerry Sanders.

198. Jesus in the Gospels.

Meeting Sundays, 6:00-8:30pm. Leader: Larry Bradford.

Serve Groups

201. Usher/Greeters, 9:30.

Arrives 30 minutes before worship and ensures that everyone is warmly welcomed. Hands out bulletins, answer questions, distribute and receive collection plates during the offering. 9:30 service leaders: Max Stanley, 285-2946 and Bill Walters, 285-0236.

202. Usher/Greeters, 11:00.

Arrives 30 minutes before worship and ensures that everyone is warmly welcomed. Hands out bulletins, answer questions, distribute and receive collection plates during the offering. 11:00 service leader: Jim Wynn, 285-2157.

203. Communion Servers, 9:30.

Helps serve communion on communion Sunday. 9:30 service leader: Robin Walters, 285-0236.

204. Communion Servers, 11:00.

Helps serve communion on communion Sunday. 11:00 service leader: Jim Wynn, 285-2157.

205. Acolytes, 11:00.

Children, 3rd - 5th grades light and extinguish candles at the traditional service. Contact Martin Combs, 821-8734.

211. Traditional Choir.

Sings in the 11:00 traditional service. Rehearses on Thursday nights at 7:00pm. Contact Diane Wright, 280-5141.

212. Praise Choir.

Sings with the Praise Band and Team in the contemporary service. Rehearses on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm. Contact Scott Tinsley, 280-5141.

221. Church Works.

Assists with phone coverage, printing and various other office duties. Leader: Norma Webster, 285-2469.

222. Counters.

Tallies and records the weekly offering. Leader: John Tilley. Contact the church office, 280-5141.

231. Hospitality.

Volunteers who enjoy food preparation and decorating to help with various liturgical and social activites including preparing communion elements and refreshments for hymn sings, new member orientations, etc. Leader: Ruth Murta, 280-3055.

251. Soup Kitchen.

Prepares and serves a meal the second Sunday of every other month. Presently full but we're watching for additional opportunities. Leader: Brett Merrill, 273-4593.

252. Habitat for Humanity.

Help build homes for Beaches residents in need, the second Saturday of each month, 8:00am. Join the group for 6:45 breakfast at the Players Cafe, A1A & Solana Road. Contact John McEvoy, 280-4678.

253. HartFelt Ministries.

Trained volunteers are matched with those struggling to maintain their independence, privacy, and identity - to enable them to "age in place" with dignity. Contact Loree Reed, 285-8796.

254. Soup Kitchen.

Prepares and serves a meal from 10:30am - 1:00pm every 5th Monday. Leader: Jill Bennett, 285-2134.

Care Groups

351. Stephen Ministry.

Lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge. 50 hours of training. Call Jill Bennett, 285-2134.

Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one ministry by trained, caring lay ministers for those who are stressed, grieving, hospitalized, terminally ill, lonely or isolated, in a spiritual crisis, in a strained relationship, or in a job or financial crisis. Each Stephen Minister completes 50 hours of training. A Stephen Minister is available to help you; call Jill Bennett at 285-2134.

Reach Groups

402. Detention Center.

Brings God’s good news to youth detained at the St. John’s County Detention Center on the fourth Saturday of the month. Contact Sue Stanley, 285-2946.
